Canaries enter Senior Cup

Norfolk County FA is delighted to confirm that Norwich City FC will be entering a team into the Norfolk Senior Cup for season 2010-11.

News of the Canaries participation is sure to excite players and fans alike. Norwich will be joined by the newly reformed King’s Lynn Town FC in entering, which will certainly raise the prestige of the competition to an even higher level. There's certainly the prospect of some exciting matches ahead of us.

The draws for Round 1 and Round 2 have already been made and can be viewed by opening the relevant attachment to the right.

In order to facilitate Norwich's entry, a pilot scheme will be put in place for the season which will work on the following basis:

1. Norwich City FC will receive dispensation to play their games either the midweek prior to the scheduled fixture or the midweek after, depending on availability of Carrow Road and also Championship requirements.

2. Should Norwich City FC be drawn at home the fixture would take place at Carrow Road in line with point 1.

3. Should Norwich City FC be drawn away and the home team has floodlights which meet the required standard to enter the FA Vase, the game would be played at the home team venue in line with point 1.

4. Should Norwich City FC be drawn away and the home club does not have floodlights, the home club would have two options:

a. The home club could reverse the fixture which would then be played at Carrow Road, in line with point 1 and Norwich City would be required to cover the cost of the match officials.

b. The home club could arrange to play the scheduled game at another club’s venue, in line with point 1.

However, should the home club choose this option it would be required to meet any expenditure incurred for staging the fixture, including match officials. Any such agreement would be between the two respective clubs and would not involve Norwich City or Norfolk FA.

The above pilot scheme was formally approved on 22 July by the Cup Committee and will therefore be in place for season 2010-11, with the success of the pilot being reviewed at the conclusion of the season. With Norwich City FC receiving dispensation to play their fixtures midweek, it might be that for future seasons this opens up the possibility of other clubs following suit, which a number of Clubs have requested to be able to do over the years.
