Gallery: Schools World Cup Festival

Sixteen primary and junior schools from across Norfolk competed in Norfolk FA’s 2010 Schools World Cup Festival at the FDC on Wednesday.

Each school represented a country that has been competing in this year’s World Cup.

The competition was held for Year 5 children, with each school bringing a squad of 8 players consisting of 4 boys and 4 girls and a mini manager, who was responsible for running the team for the day!

Each school was also encouraged to make the event even more memorable by dressing as colourfully as possible and representing their countries creatively.

The groups were broken down to groups of 4, just like in the World Cup, with the winning team qualifying for the semi final stage. The group winners were:

  • Group A: Uruguay (Herman Primary School)
  • Group B: Brazil (Attleborough Junior School)
  • Group C: Australia (Loddon Junior School)
  • Group D: Holland (Woodlands Primary School)

The semi finals saw Brazil beat Uruguay and Holland beat Australia in front of all the other teams, who had stayed to support. The final went the way of the Dutch, with the 'oranje' beating Brazil 2-1 in a very close game.

Norfolk FA’s Small Sided Football Development Officer Adam Gusterson, who organised the event, said:

“The day was a real success. All the schools made a fantastic effort to represent their country as imaginatively as possible, which really added to the day and the atmosphere.

"The children acquitted themselves exceptionally throughout and some of the football on display was of a very high standard.”
