Norfolk FA Groundsman Development Workshop

Norfolk FA are delighted to confirm a FREE groundsman development workshop will be taking place on Monday 1st April 2019, from 7.00pm – 9.00pm at FDC Bowthorpe.

The workshop, entitled End of Season Pitch Maintenance, will be delivered by Phil Jeggo, Regional Pitch Advisor from the IOG.  Phil will provide insight and information on what is required when considering & completing end-of season renovations at your club, and why it is essential for maintenance to be carried out.  This practical workshop will cover basic end of season works through to full renovations, and will provide vital information for groundsman regardless of budget available to complete the required works.

Also Phil will cover the general maintenance of pitches during the off-season to ensure that they will be in the best condition possible come the start of the following season.

The need for this service is more relevant now than ever, given the current economic times and the pressures facing grass roots football.

Highlighted in the latest FA grassroots survey, football pitch quality is affecting participation and in anticipation of this The FA Facilities & Investment Team has been working in partnership with the industry to develop a Grass Pitch Maintenance service that can be utilised by grassroots football clubs with the simple aim of improving the quality of grass pitches.

The key principle behind the service are to provide football clubs/site providers with advice/practical solutions on a number of areas and discounts on machinery and materials to support, improving the club’s playing surface.

Programme Process

  • Club submits PiP Expression of Interest Form (EOI), see downloadable document below
  • EOI reviewed by CFA with a visit organised and coordinated with the club and the IOG Regional Pitch Advisor (RPA)
  • Site visit carried by RPA, with potentially CFA attendance
  • Report produced by Pitch Advisor with a copy sent to club, CFA and The FA Regional Facilities & Investment Manager (RFIM)
  • Club review and discusses recommendations with CFA and RFIM with the relevant actions taken
  • A revisit is agreed with Pitch Advisor, CFA and Club with a report produced

Cost & Payment

There is no cost to join the Pitch Improvement Programme.  

As part of the programme The FA has secured two commercial partners to support the roll-out and growth in line with the companies aspirations. The two partners are;

  • Redexim Charterhouse Limited – Official Machinery Supplier to The FA Pitch Improvement Programme     
  • Rigby Taylor Limited – Official Consumables Supplier to The FA Pitch Improvement Programme

Both companies have agreed a partnering schedule of rates with The FA to support the programme. These rates will be made available to all CFA’s FA affiliated clubs and leagues (not Premier League or Football League), and not solely to those clubs/organisations receiving a PiP visit and report. Pitch Improvement Programme - Expression of Interest

Norfolk County FA has agreed a partnership with Toilets+ which will see the portable toilet hire specialists become the Association’s official supporter of The FDC Equipment Bank.

The quality of football pitches play a huge role in player participation and The FA Pitch Improvement Programme allows clubs to apply for advice and practical solutions in order to help improve their playing surfaces. The FDC Equipment Bank is a new additional service provided by Norfolk County FA that compliments and further advances this provision.

With the introduction of The FDC Equipment Bank, Norfolk FA are able to support clubs who have a PiP Report by loaning state-of-the-art equipment to help with over-seeding, fertilising and aeration. In addition, clubs also have to the opportunity to receive workforce support in the form of The FDC’s experienced Grounds Maintenance Officer, Chris Erskine.

The two-year partnership will see Toilets+ become the face of The FDC Equipment Bank, which is expected to support around 30 clubs this season.
