Marlborough lifted the Norfolk Sunday Senior Cup on Wednesday evening after a convincing 4-1 win over Camden at Carrow Road – and in the process marked a historic treble of League, League Cup and County Cup titles for the Club this season.
The game was evenly contested for the opening half an hour, with Camden perhaps even shading the better of the play, but three quick fire goals before half time ensured Marlborough went in at the break in a comfortable position.
The opening goal arrived in the 36th minute courtesy of Jason Armes’ effort from the edge of the box, which evaded Robert Thornton and crashed in off the underside of the bar.
The Norwich based side doubled their lead minutes later, when Danny McKail nipped in behind the Camden backline to nod home from close range, and target man Danny Brown added a third soon after to leave Camden and their fans stunned come the whistle.
Half time: Marlborough 3-0 Camden
Camden emerged with renewed belief after the interval and pulled a goal back through Ricci Butler after 50 minutes, when the striker rifled a volley past the helpless Stuart Palmer to give his side hope.
The Yarmouth side were sensing that a famous comeback might be on the cards, but Marlborough poured cold water on that idea just 5 minutes later, when McKail’s second goal of the game restored Marlborough’s three goal advantage.
The goal proved decisive, with Camden’s momentum stung, and Marlborough saw the game through to the final whistle to crown a memorable campaign for all associated with the Club.
