Local Referees' inspired by Jon Moss

With the kick off for the new season just around the corner, over 100 local match officials gathered at Barnham Broom on Sunday for the Referee Develo

The day, which incorporates the annual CPD ‘Laws of the Game’ test, also included engaging sessions delivered by The FA’s Senior National Game Referee Manager Ian Blanchard and Premier League Assistant Referee Lee Betts.

Moss, whose key note speech offered an entertaining view of life refereeing in the professional game, challenged and inspired those in attendance to continue to improve and develop their game management over the course of the forthcoming season.

“When I started refereeing we certainly didn't have events like this”, said Jon.

“For young referees and old, just continuing in their professional development and talking about issues you might experience in games can only be beneficial.

“Even at my level we are always learning and trying to make our refereeing performances better. By spiralling that down we can talk about incidents in the Premier League and maybe that can also help at a local level.”

Having also heard updates in relation to the Laws of the Game and The FA’s Whole Game System, as well as receiving practical input for improved Player Management and Training & Fitness regimes, attendees left at the end of the day with a sense of renewed energy for the 2014-15 season.

“There were a number of excellent presentations that brought together themes around being well prepared, from fitness to nutrition, as well as thinking about how you present yourself professionally to clubs”, said attendee Walter Lloyd-Smith.

“We had a nice blend of law, theory, discussion, but also some very practical hints and tips that we can take to our games next week and start applying.”
