New online course for club committee members.
As part of their continuing drive to improve safeguarding arrangements for children in football, The FA has launched Safeguarding for Committee Members - a new online course created specifically for grassroots Club Chairpersons, Club Secretaries and Welfare Officers.
Developed by The FA education and safeguarding teams, the course is designed to provide a consistent level of safeguarding awareness across all youth clubs and to support them to embed essential safeguards.
Free to take, it covers topics such as the role of the committee in CRCs and safer recruitment, building a safe club, recognising and reporting harm and abuse, and a reflection of effective committees.
The course is a mandatory requirement of Norfolk FA affiliation for all clubs who have under 18 teams and below. A minimum of three club committee members, including the Chairperson, Secretary and Welfare Officer must complete it for clubs to affiliate for the 2017-18 season.
Even if the minimum of three committee members have valid CRC checks in place, this new bespoke course is mandatory for all clubs in the county with youth teams. This is also a completely separate process to the recent drive to make sure all coaches in the county have valid CRC checks.
This will progress to include the Club Treasurer for the 2018-19 season onwards. Other club officials may also access the course, although for them it is entirely optional at this stage.
It's an act that supports The FA's on-going commitment to ensuring safeguarding measures are embedded across grassroots football, something that was received well by a number of committee members who took part in the initial course consultation stage.
