Leathes Prior Veterans League Update: Match Day 5

Welcome to the latest round-up of the Leathes Prior Veterans League. There have been plenty of goals since the last update, so let’s get straight into the action.

PREMIERSHIP

There was just 1 game this week in the Premiership with Horsford recording their 3rd win of the season with a 2-0 win over Attleborough Town to move up to 4th. David Coyle continued his good scoring form since joining the club with a brace to move onto 4 for the season in just 3 games. Attleborough drop below Horsford into 5th place after their 3rd defeat of the season.

CHAMPIONSHIP

Thetford moved 2 points clear at the top of the table with a thumping 9-0 win over North Walsham Town. There were hattrick’ s from Mark Fowler and Karl Pask with further goals from Robert Johnson, Martin French and Trevor Pitchford. Thetford have now scored an incredible 27 in just 4 games whilst conceding just 4. 2nd placed Scole travelled to Sole & Heel and came away with a 3-1 win. Goals from Simon Bartram, Michael Earrye and Graham Ruddock secured their 3rd win of the season. Sole & Heel drop to 4th after that defeat. Wymondham and Wensum played out a 4-4 draw which sees both teams remain in 5th and 8th respectively. Easton St Faiths kept their good form going with a 4-2 win over Unthank Arms to move up to 3rd place. Roy Bevis and Tim Wickham were both on the scoresheet with 2 each. Peter Marron did score twice for Unthank Arms but it wasn’t enough as they remain in 7th place.

LEAGUE ONE

The Cottage secured back to back wins with a 12-1 win over bottom side Harts. The pick of the goals came from Matthew Brown and Ian Whalebelly as they both scored hattricks with Osa Odeh grabbing a brace. Cringleford Old Boys have gone about their business quietly as they secured a 3rd straight win to move up to 2nd with a 5-1 win over Costessey Sports. A brace from the bench for John McCluskey with Mark Greengrass, Shane Dewing and Bob Kett-Brodie all scoring one a piece secured the win to leave their side 3 points behind the leaders. Swaffham secured a league double over Necton with another 4-2 win over them and they also moved off the bottom of the table. There were 4 scorers with Andrew Wilkins, Keith Rix, Bryan Banham and Jon Dorling all getting on the scoresheet. Mattishall Wanderers and Mundford Exiles were involved in a 6 goal thriller which ended 3-3. Scott West scored a brace with Gavin Bland scoring the 3rd for Mattishall Wanderers whilst for Mundford Stephen Bowles scored a double with Neal Barrett also getting on the scoresheet. Mattishall now move up to 3rd whilst Mundford move up to 5th.

LEAGUE TWO

Sheringham continued their incredible start by beating Hethersett Athletic 9-1. Paul Massingham kept his brilliant run going by scoring 3 along with braces from Simon Robinson and Gareth Sanderson. They have now scored an astonishing 39 in just 4 games! Hethersett did bounce back from that defeat with a 4-0 win over Erpingham United to move off the bottom into 4th place. Morley & Deopham won their 3rd game of the season with a 3-1 win over Newsman Valhalla. David Darkins scored twice with Philip Mercer adding a 3rd which moves the team up to 2nd place. Newsman Valhalla remain bottom after their 2nd defeat in 3 games.
