My Level 1: Bryn's Blog

Today sees Norfolk FA's Digital Marketing Apprentice, Bryn Hughes take his first step on the FA coaching ladder as he begins the FA Level 1 in Coaching Football at theFDC.

The FA Level 1 Course is the entry level award for coaches working in grassroots football, giving them the tools, knowledge and experience they need to ensure you can better support the development of future players. It also allows them to progress up the coaching ladder with the next step being The FA Level 2.

The course, which is taking place at theFDC was attended and completed by over 350 individuals last season.

Next week we will feature a 'Day 1 Review' as part of Bryn's Blog, as we will follow his journey through the course as to provide an insight for others who may wish to become a qualified coach in 19/20.

Bryn currently holds a player/coach role at Yaxham FC and we asked him a few questions in the lead up to today.

Why are you going on the Course?

I am going on the course because I want to understand football from more than just a player’s perspective and to hopefully begin my coaching career. It will also give me ideas around what I can take back to my club, and what will be beneficial when trying to develop players.

Why is it important to you to get an official FA qualification?

I think it will benefit the players at the club and the club itself to have qualified coach. Getting the FA Level 1 will open a lot of doors for Yaxham FC, and for me - I personally want to learn as much as possible. There's a lot of work we see around the England DNA and I'm looking forward to finding out how that can help me and my team. It will also allow me to become an FA Licensed Coach, the benefits of which I've been aware of for a while.

What are you looking forward to most?

I am most looking forward to learning the basics of coaching as well as sharing ideas with people in a similar position to me. I want to take away as much new information as possible over the duration of the course and impact my team in a positive way.

Any worries about attending the Course?

No, not really. I know the tutors will be really friendly and cater for everyone regardless of their involvement in the game. I can’t wait to get started!
