Senior Cup goes International as 'Battle of the Broads' streamed LIVE

The Ashtons Legal Senior Cup returns this weekend after a wait of almost four months, and in a first for the competition, you can watch the Yachtsmen face the Planters in the second round LIVE on Friday evening.

Undoubtedly a standout tie in the second round, Wroxham Vs Norwich United is sure to be a hotly contested game as both teams were situated near the top of the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division when football was halted in December last year. And with the 'Blue Wave' unable to attend, The Yachtsmen are pulling out all the stops to enable fans to view the game.

The two giants of Norfolk football are set to meet at Trafford Park, home of Wroxham FC, tomorrow evening with kick off at 7:45pm. Due to current Government and FA guidelines no spectators will be able to attend the match. However, Wroxham FC are livestreaming the game to a professional standard, with assistance from Insight4, for fans to purchase and watch live.

The livestream will be hosted by local celebrity and ex-Sky Sports presenter, Simon Thomas, who will be joined by a host of popular faces from local football including Adrian Forbes and Darren Huckerby, not to mention Norfolk FA's very own, Gavin Lemmon.

The match hasn’t just attracted attention from fans in Norfolk, or even the UK, as the recently formed ‘Wroxham FC NYC Supporters Group’ will be watching the action unfold all the way from the East Coast of the USA in New York City. The newly-formed fan group describe themselves as ‘Supporters bringing tika-taka football & the sounds of the Wroxham FC from Trafford Park to the streets of NYC’.

For such an occasion Wroxham will be hoping to progress, however its the Planters who have enjoyed success in the competition more recently. Norwich United won Norfolk’s most prestigious cup for the first time in 2018, whereas you have to go back five years to find the last Wroxham triumph in the Ashtons Legal Senior Cup, a competition they have won on eight occasions in their history.

Wroxham FC Chairman, Lee Robson said: "It’s great have football back. The live stream is the only way to get supporters back so we thought we’d give it a go. The decision was made easier by the support of Glen at Biz club media and the fact that it’s such a professional production. It’s going to a load of much needed fun on and off the pitch bringing football on the Norfolk Broads to the world."

Norfolk FA Football Services Manager, Matt Carpenter added: “Wroxham vs Norwich United in the Norfolk Senior Cup, under the Trafford Park lights on a Friday night, would have attracted a bumper crowd so it is a real shame that local football fans are not permitted to be in attendance under the current guidance.

"However, massive credit to Wroxham for the enormous amount of work that has gone on behind the scenes to provide supporters with an opportunity to watch the match. It should be a great game and hopefully will showcase the best of Norfolk football to a potentially worldwide audience!”

We'd like to wish good luck to both teams competing in the showcase event tomorrow night, as well as all of the teams fighting it out in the competition over the course of this weekend.
