Women 1 – 12 Wymondham Town Ladies
their defense of the Norfolk Women’s Cup after cruising past Taverham.
Becca Russell opened the scoring in the opening
minutes with a good shot from distance that left the Taverham Goalkeeper no
chance. The powerful strike really put Wymondham on the front foot and they
dominated until the half time whistle.
Wymondham doubled their lead after 11 minutes had
been played when Mollie O’Callaghan had the ball squared to her and she smashed
the ball past the keeper into the back of the net.
The difference between the teams was evident as
Taverham struggled to get out of their own half. Wymondham were able to
capitalise on their dominance and scored multiple goals with the pick of them
coming half way through the half. Mollie O’Callaghan picked the ball up 20
yards from goal and blasted her shot into the top corner of the net.

Women 0 – 8 Wymondham Town Ladies
Both teams made changes at
the break and this was obvious to see on the pitch. Taverham were keeping the
ball much better and deservedly got their goal with 15 minutes played in the
Poor defending from
Wymondham allowed the Taverham Striker to have a shot from 30 yards out. The
Wymondham goalkeeper could do nothing except watch the ball fly over her head
and into the net. This goal was received well by both sets of supporters as
everyone watching cheered for the Taverham forward’s brilliant strike.
As the game approached its
end the Wymondham front line continued to cause Taverham trouble as they had
done all game. Further goals from Laura Nicholls, Chelsea Clarke and Mollie O’Callaghan
saw Wymondham increase their goal tally to 12.
Wymondham enter the Norfolk
Women’s Cup Semi-Finals alongside Acle United, Thorpe United and either
Sprowston Athletic or King’s Lynn Town. The draw for the Semi-Finals will take
place this Friday live on BBC Radio Norfolk at 6:30pm.
