The first of the two sides competing for the trophy is home side, Swaffham Town ‘A’. They currently compete in The Central & South Norfolk League (Sponsored by Barnes Print) Division Three. Their opponents are Hockering, who compete in the division above; The Central & South Norfolk League (Sponsored by Barnes Print) Division Two. The last time these two sides met was in the league in the 2021/22 season, with Swaffham Town ‘A’ victorious on both occasions.

Swaffham Town ‘A’ are in the middle of an impressive League season in which they have played fourteen games, winning eleven of them, drawing one and losing two. This impressive form leaves them third in the table at the time of writing, however if they win their games in hand, they could sit top of the final table. They are also into the Semi Finals of the Ben Smith Memorial Cup after receiving a reprieve in the Quarter Finals and the Final of the Pease League Cup and as such will be looking to claim victory this evening to go towards winning four different sets of silverware to top off an amazing season.

When asked about the season so far and their opponents in the final, Swaffham Town ‘A’ Manager, Alex Lown said: “The biggest achievement is the group of lads we have managed to get together week in, week out. Days like this are just a bonus. There is no doubt that we will be in for a very tough game from opposition who sit a division above us.

“Finally, there won’t be any change to our philosophy, we will just try to score one more than the other team!”

Hockering, currently sit fourth in the division above, with the current Primary Cup holders, AG Hingham already crown Divisional champions. They currently sit on 21 points with a record of six wins, three draws & four defeats. Hockering have also showed impressive cup form as they too reached the Quarter Finals of the Ben Smith Memorial Cup and were only defeated by divisional rivals, AG Hingham, in the Primary League Cup. With promotion still in sight, Hockering will turn their attention to the Primary Cup this evening, as promotion will see them enter the Junior Cup next season.

When speaking about what reaching the final meant to him, The Hockering Manager, Derrick Johnson said: “We folded out first team two years ago after losing several players to injury and other teams. Having won a League Cup last season and making this Final, it feels the decision was vindicated.

“We started really poorly, with individual errors costing us valuable points. Then we had an eleven-game unbeaten run. The lads have scored plenty of goals and know how to defend as well. Progression through the league is our top priority.”
