Norfolk Schools FA Cup Finals - Under 14 Girls & Under 15's Tom Eastall Cup

Thorpe St. Andrew School won this year’s Norfolk Schools FA under 14 Girls – Millennium Shield Knockout Cup by beating Notre Dame by 3 goals to 1.

Full Time – Thorpe St. Andrew 3-1 Notre Dame

The first half started with Notre Dame High School on the front foot with Lizzie Way providing a dangerous goal threat. With 28 minutes gone Way’s continued forward pressure was rewarded when she scored an amazing goal from 25 yards out, on the angle. Way hit the ball across the face of the stranded goalkeeper in the Thorpe St. Andrew goal and the ball flew into the top left hand corner of the net.

Just before the half time whistle Thorpe equalised when Sophie Rawlinson ran with the ball down the line and cut the ball back to allow her teammate an easy tap in at the far post.

Half Time – Thorpe St. Andrew 1-1 Notre Dame

With 5 minutes left to play in the match Thorpe St. Andrew won a free kick about 20 yards out. Sophie Rawlinson stepped up to take the set piece and caught everyone out by hitting the ball over the keeper’s head and into the back of the net. Thorpe took the lead.

With practically the final kick off the game, Lucy Wetherell scored a super volley straight from a corner whipped in to the box. This goal gave Thorpe the two goal cushion they needed and they were able to see out the rest of the match.

The game then entered extra time where neither side threatened the opponent’s goal. Thus meaning we began penalties and after each team had taken 5 the scores were level at 4-4 meaning we headed for sudden death. Thorpe won eventually 7-6 after Wymondham missed their 8th penalty.
