Stuart Dracup Cup Final Preview 2018
In this year’s Stuart Dracup Final,
Costessey Sports FC take on Dereham Town FC at the FDC, Field Of Dreams, 7:30pm
KO.
The Stuart
Dracup Cup was first competed for in the 2014-15 season following the sad
passing of Stuart Dracup who devoted many years to youth football in Norfolk.
The competition, which was formerly known as the Norfolk Minor Cup, is steeped
in history and was first competed for in the 1927-28 season when Norwich ILP
defeated Rudham 5-0.
Dereham Town
began their cup run with a 5-3 win over Watlington Sports FC; Dereham needed
extra time to score the decisive two goals that won them the tie. They started
to pick up their momentum in the second round of the Stuart Dracup Cup with a 2-1
win over Reffley Youth FC. Dereham then scored 11 goals in a single game in the
third around against North Walsham Town FC. Finally, Town reached this year’s
Stuart Dracup Final by beating Norwich United FC 4-2.
Costessey
Sports FC began their cup run with a bye in the very first round of the cup. However
in the second round they were involved in a tight game against Thetford Town,
but they came out on top with a 5-4 away win. There were not as many goals in
their third round tie, as they beat Old Catton Tigers FC 2-0. This clean sheet
gave them confidence in the upcoming rounds, in their quarter final against
Diss Town FC, they snatched a tight 2-1 win. They reached the final after
beating Norwich United Lions FC 4-2.
Let’s hope
to see a tremendous game!
