The Leathes Prior Veterans League 2017-18 Bulletin 10

WELCOME

Welcome to the tenth bulletin of the 2017-18 season. We have 11 games to look at so let’s get straight into it.

VETERANS LEAGUE REVIEW

Premiership

We start as always in the Premiership as Cringleford’s unbeaten run was ended at the hands of Taverham as they came away with a 3-2 victory. Kirk Bardsley, Jon Shannon and Matt Thurlow all grabbed a goal which gives Taverham a fourth win of the campaign. Cringleford remain top and two points clear whilst also having a game in hand. Quebec are hot on Cringleford’s heels as they won 4-1 away at Attleborough. Jason Fletcher added 3 more to his collection as he now has 14 for the season. Greg Harper grabbed the fourth to secure back to back wins. Quebec remain second whilst Attleborough are sixth. Tavern Old Boys won their first game in 3 games with a 4-0 victory at Mulbarton Wanderers. Andrew Cunningham grabbed a brace with Nathan Ferguson and James Winter-Whitaker also getting on the scoresheet. Championship

Thetford Town came out on top in the top of the table clash at Scole United by 3 goals to 1. Steve Crawshaw and Karl Pask scored the pick of the goals to get back to winning ways. Scole remain a point clear of Thetford but Thetford have 4 games in hand. Wymondham Town and North Walsham Town played out a 2-2 draw. Colm McGilway was amongst the goals again with 2 goals for North Walsham. Wymondham remain fourth and North Walsham are a place below in fifth. Easton St Faiths beat Sole & Heel 2-1 to stay in third place. Lee Campbell and Edward Jack were the goalscorers as they sealed their sides fifth win of the season. Sole & Heel drop to seventh after a sixth straight defeat. The last game came from Wensum Albion as they entertained Unthank Arms. Unthank Arms grabbed all 3 points with a 3-2 victory. The pick of the goals came from James Bennett and Peter Marron. Ryan Newell and Richard Powell were on the scoresheet for Wensum but it wasn’t their day to get back to back wins. After that win for Unthank Arms they now move up to sixth whilst Wensum remain at the bottom of the table. League One

In League One we just had one completed game with Cottage and Costessey Sports playing out a 4-4 draw. David Youngs scored a hattrick for Costessey Sports with Darren Edge completing the scoring for the away side. Cottage though scored four of their own with Neil Burrage grabbing a brace with Simon Gant and Osa Odeh also getting in on the act. The draw moves Cottage four points clear at the top whilst Costessey remain in fourth place. Paul Massingham scored a brace with Simon Robinson completing the scoring. Sheringham can secure the League 2 title in their next game with a win at Micawbers Tavern. 2nd place Hethersett Athletic won their fourth game of the season at bottom team Erpingham United 2-1. Erpingham’s goal came from Chris Hoye as they stay four points adrift of Newsman Valhalla in sixth. Micawbers Tavern moved up to third after a 1-0 win away at Newsman Valhalla. NORFOLK VETERANS CUP

This Sunday sees 4 teams from the Leathes Prior Veterans League compete for a place in the Veterans Cup Final at the FDC. The first fixture sees Horsford travel to take on the lowest ranking team left in Thetford Town. In the other fixture Quebec Vets take on Cringleford Veterans which should be a very entertaining encounter. Both fixtures will take place at 2:00pm. We wish all teams all the best in their Semi-Final!

  • Championship – Roy Bevis – Easton St Faiths – 12 goals in 4 games. Colm McGilway – North Walsham Town – 12 goals in 9 games. Karl Pask – Thetford Town – 12 goals in 6 games.
  • League One – Andrew Ashby – Necton – 10 goals in 5 games.
  • League Two – Paul Massingham – Sheringham – 14 goals in 7 games.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE

Just a reminder that the deadline to register and transfer any more players is Saturday 31st March. Therefore any player registration forms handed in after this time will not be accepted. If you do register any more players this season please send these to Registrations@NorfolkFA.com.
