Downham Town Vs Wymondham Town

The second of the Senior Cup Semi-Finals kicks off tomorrow at The FDC, Field of Dreams

Tomorrow is the turn of Downham Town and Wymondham Town who will play Norwich United at Carrow Road on Monday 30th April. Downham Town play in the Thurlow Nunn League Division One whilst their opponents Wymondham Town are the lowest ranked team left in the competition as they play in the Anglian Combination First Division.

Downham Town haven't enjoyed much success in this competition with their last triumph coming all the way back in 1966 against Norwich Electricity. The club then reached the final in 1967, 1968 and 1969 but lost in each final by the same scoreline of 2-1. They will therefore see this as a great opportunity to reach the final for the first time in 49 years. Downham Town are having a mixed season as they are currently mid table and haven't been able to get on a winning run but their cup form has been brilliant as they have beaten local rivals Swaffham Town, Great Yarmouth Town and Anglian Combination Premier Division high flyers Norwich CEYMS.

Wymondham Town are two times Senior Cup winners with their victories coming all the way back in 1888 and 1889 as they beat Thorpe and Lynn Town respectively. Wymondham Town are having a great season as they currently sit top of the Anglian Combination First Division and are looking likely to get promoted back to the Premier Division after 3 seasons away. They have also enjoyed a great run in the Senior Cup and have beaten higher league opposition along their way to the Semi Final such as Mulbarton Wanderers, Thetford Town and Acle United.

Let's hope for another exciting semi-final!
