John Savage Cup Final Preview
This seasons John Savage Cup
Final will be competed between Firside Athletic under 16’s and Attleborough
Town under 15’s. Firside Athletic currently compete in the Norfolk Combined
Youth League U16 Premiership and have not lost a league match all season. Attleborough
Town have fared differently in the league this season as they have won as many
matches as they have lost in the Norfolk Combined Youth League U15 Premiership.
Firside Athletic are no strangers to winning this cup
competition as they enter this are defending champions. Firside have only
conceded three goals on their way to this year’s final meaning that they
concede less than a goal per game. They are also having another good season in
the League currently sitting a point behind leaders Taverham in 2nd place but
have 3 games in hand.
Judging by recent league form, Firside will be confident that they can
retain their title.
Attleborough Town have reached this year’s John Savage
Cup Final as an Under 15 team which hasn't been achieved by many teams and have
reached back to back finals which is a tremendous achievement. The U16s won the
John Savage Cup in 2016 whilst the U15s have had continued success in their age
group winning League and Cup competitions over the last few years. This team
did reach the Stuart Dracup Cup final last year but lost out to St Andrews by 1
goal to nil. They have already beaten teams of a higher age group in all
previous rounds to reach the final, meaning there is no reason they can’t go on
to win this year’s John Savage Cup.
Let’s hope for an exciting Final!
