The Leathes Prior Veterans League 2017-18 Bulletin 11
Welcome to the eleventh bulletin of the 2017-18 season. We have 14 games to look at so let’s get straight into the action.
VETERANS LEAGUE REVIEW
Cringleford moved 5 points clear at the top of the Premiership with a 5-0 win at home to Tavern Old Boys. Darren Huckerby was amongst the goals with a brace with Karl Izzard, Matt Metcalf and Matt Gill completing the scoring. Tavern remain in 4th after their defeat but still have 2 games in hand on the teams above them. Quebec suffered their 3rd defeat of the season as they lost at home to Horsford. Steven Middleton scored the only goal of the game as they moved to within 1 point of Quebec. Mulbarton won their 1st game since January as they beat Taverham 3-2. Thetford Town moved 5 points clear at the top of the Championship as they beat Wensum Albion 7-0. Steven Davies scored a hattrick with Stephen Wycherley, David Richards, Mark Fowler and Morgan Crane all getting on the scoresheet. Colm McGilway scored all 4 against Scole United as North Walsham Town won 4-0. They have now joined Wymondham and Easton St Faiths on 17 points just 3 points behind Scole. Wymondham Town beat Sole & Heel 3-1 to move up to 3rd. Wymondham have 2 games in hand on Scole and still have a chance of finishing 2nd. Unthank Arms played out a 2-2 draw with Easton St Faiths. Peter Marrron scored a brace for Unthank Arms with Tim Wickham scoring twice for Easton. Easton now drop to 4th after dropping 2 points whilst Unthank Arms remain in 6th place. In League One Cottage are now 7 points clear with 4 games to go after beating Necton 5-1. Neil Burrage scored a hattrick with Osa Odeh scoring a brace. Necton drop to 6th after their 5th defeat of the season. Mattishall Wanderers played and won their first game since January as they beat Cringleford Old Boys 3-0. Gavin Bland scored a hattrick as they remain unbeaten since September. Costessey Sports beat Mundford Exiles 5-2 as they remain in 4th place just 1 point behind Cringleford in 2nd place. Shaun Copland scored a brace for Costessey with Mark Finch, Barry Caine and Martin Smith all scoring one each. Mundford drop to 7th after their 3rd defeat in 4 games. Swaffham Town won back to back games with a 7-0 win at home to Harts. Keith Rix scored 4 with Richard Metcalf, Ian Whittaker and Stephen Brown also amongst the goals. East Harling won their 3rd game in 4 with a 2-0 win away at Hethersett Athletic. Chris Bray and Nick Catchpole were the goalscorers as they stay in 5th but just 3 points behind 2nd place. Micawbers Tavern won back to back games against Newsman Valhalla with the latest being a 3-2 win at home. The goals were shared between Chris Alger, Shaun Hudson and Lee Roach. Newsmans goals came from Leo Dudley but it wasn’t enough as they slipped to their 6th defeat of the season. NORFOLK VETERANS CUP FINAL
Congratulations to Horsford and Cringleford Veterans who have reached the Norfolk Veterans Cup Final. Horsford travelled to Thetford Town and came away with a 3-0 win whilst Cringleford Veterans beat fellow Premiership rivals Quebec Vets 4-1. The final will now be played on Friday 4th May at the FDC@Bowthorpe with a 7:30pm kick off.
- Premiership – Jason Fletcher – Quebec Vets – 14 goals in 8 games. Darren Huckerby – Cringleford Veterans – 14 goals in 8 games.
- Championship – Colm McGilway – North Walsham Town – 16 goals in 10 games.
- League One – Andrew Ashby – Necton – 11 goals in 6 games. Neil Burrage – Cottage – 11 goals in 9 games. Osa Odeh – Cottage – 11 goals in 9 games
- League Two – Paul Massingham – Sheringham – 14 goals in 7 games.
Just a reminder that the deadline to register and transfer any more players is Saturday 31st March. Therefore any player registration forms handed in after this time will not be accepted.
LEATHES PRIOR VETERANS LEAGUE AGM
Please be aware that the date of the League’s AGM is Wednesday 20th June which will be starting at 7pm at County HQ. More details will be sent out in due course.
