Match Preview: The Stuart Dracup Cup sponsored by Soccer@Sea - The Final!

This season’s final of the Stuart Dracup Cup sponsored by Soccer@sea will be contested between Firside Athletic and Norman Wanderers on Friday 26 April 2019 (7:30pm KO). Both teams compete in the Norfolk Combined Youth Football League in the 4Sports U14 Premiership.

Last year the Final was held at the FDC’s Field of Dreams and was a tight battle between Costessey Sports and Dereham Town. Having two completely new teams in the Final who share a fierce rivalry will guarantee a thrilling Final.

Firside Athletic currently sit second in the League and are two points behind the leaders, despite being undefeated, with three matches left to play. Firside started their cup run against fellow U14 Premiership side Horsford who they beat by scoring the only goal of the game. In the second and third rounds they had large victories against Rocklands Youth and Bulldogs, scoring 13 and 10 respectively. The Quarter-Final proved to be the toughest game in their Cup run as they needed extra-time to score a fourth goal to beat Gorleston Rangers 4-3. The Semi-Final saw them play away for the first time in the competition where they traveled to Loddon United and won comfortably 2-0. They go into the Final having kept clean sheets in four of their five Cup matches.

In the League, Norman Wanderers are also undefeated but have played two games fewer. If they were to win their games in hand then they would go top of the League and above their opponents in the Final. As for their Cup run, they were away in the first two rounds and beat Old Catton Juniors and Attleborough Town comfortably. In the third round they played at home for the first time against Thetford Town and convincingly beat them scoring 20 unanswered goals. The Quarter and Semi-Finals saw them beat Wroxham and Aylsham respectively. Similarly to Firside, they go into the Final having kept clean sheets in four of their five Cup matches.

It promises to be an exciting game!
