The McDonald's Norfolk Women's Cup Final Match Preview
Match Preview: The McDonald’s Norfolk Women’s Cup Final!
This season’s Final of the McDonald’s Norfolk Women’s Cup will be contested between King’s Lynn Town and Wymondham Town on Sunday 28 April 2019 (3:30pm KO). This is the first Women’s Cup Final to be held at the home of Norwich City, Carrow Road. Both teams compete in the Eastern Regions Women’s Football League with Wymondham in the Premier Division and Kings Lynn in Division One.
Last year the Final was held at the FDC’s Field of Dreams and was a tight battle between Acle United and Wymondham Town. Wymondham will be looking to defend their title as they won 3-2 in last year’s Final.
King’s Lynn Town currently sit fifth in the League having won exactly 50% of their League games and can move up the table if they win games in hand. As for their Cup run, they began away to Sprowston and beat them comfortably 3-0. Wins against Tavern Ladies and Sprowston Athletic 6-1 and 4-0 set up a Semi-Final tie away to Thorpe United. Thorpe held King’s Lynn to a draw after 90 minutes but King’s Lynn scored twice in extra-time to ensure they made the Final.
In the League, Wymondham Town currently sit third after a good away win against Haringey Borough Women’s last weekend. After receiving a bye in the First Round they travelled to Bulldogs in the Second. The difference in Leagues really showed and meant that Wymondham returned home with a 22-0 victory. Another away game in the Quarter-Finals against Taverham saw them win 12-1. Their toughest game so far in their Cup run was in the Semi-Finals against last year’s finalists, Acle United. Ninety minutes and extra-time wasn’t enough to separate the two sides but Wymondham came out on top in the penalty shoot-out.
