The FDC will play host for
Dereham Town and Swaffham Town on Wednesday 27 February in the Norfolk Senior
Cup Semi-Finals. The victors will play the winners of next week’s Semi Final
between Thetford Town and Mattishall at Carrow Road. Dereham Town ply their
trade in the Bostik League Division One North whilst Swaffham Town play in the
Thurlow Nunn First Division North.
Dereham Town have endured a
difficult season after missing out on the play offs last year as they finished
8th. They currently sit 17th after spending a period of
time at the foot of the table. Adam Gusterson took over as Manager in January
which has revitalised the club and have gone on an excellent run of form.
Dereham are no strangers to winning the Norfolk Senior Cup having won it on four
occasions with their most recent success coming in 2016. They will be hoping
for a positive result tonight to then reach their sixth Norfolk Senior Cup
Final. Dereham have reached this stage of the competition after beating Acle
6-1 and Diss Town 6-0, showing that they are not shy in front of goal.
Swaffham Town are enjoying a
magnificent season in 3rd place of the Thurlow Nunn First Division One North.
Swaffham have fared well in their first campaign after relegation from the
Premier Division last season. They reached the third round of the FA Vase which
ended in heartbreak after losing in the replay against Stowmarket Town 2-1
after going 1-0 up early in the first half. They are in the Semi Final of the
First Division Knockout Cup having beaten local rivals Downham Town in the Quarter
Finals. Swaffham have not reached the Norfolk Senior Cup Final since 1999 where
they lost out to Fakenham Town. Swaffham have beaten strong opposition to reach
the Semi-Finals in the form of Mulbarton Wanderers, Caister and The UEA.
Similarly to Dereham they have also only conceded one goal in their cup run
thus far showing that they will be a tough side to score against.
Let's hope for an exciting
