The Wensum Print Sunday Junior Cup Final Match Preview
This season's Norfolk Sunday Junior Cup Final will be contested between Watton United and Silver Fox at theFDC`s Field of Dreams.
Being in a higher division than their opponents after being promoted from Division 3 last season, one could assume that Silver Fox arguably have the upper hand, especially considering how well they are doing in their first season in Division 2 this season. However, this will not necessarily determine the final result of the Sunday Junior Cup Final. Silver Fox have been triumphant in 13 out of 16 league games so far this season, drawing once and losing twice. They have scored a whopping 73 goals and have only conceded 20, giving them a goal difference of 53, the best in the Division. They are currently four points behind league leaders AFC Norwich and they have a game in hand so they will be looking to put the pressure on them with only 7 games to play after their game in hand.
Silver Fox’s Cup Run began with a First Round Bye followed by a thrilling contest against Cringleford as the game finished 3-3 after extra time meaning they required penalties to progress. In Round 3, Silver Fox comfortably beat Hempnall 3-0 before thrashing DCS Rapid 7-0 in the Quarter Finals. In the Semi-Finals they faced Aylsham, the team they faced and lost to in the Final at theFDC last year, the score finishing 1-0 to Aylsham. This time round Silver Fox got their revenge, coming out victors in a 1-0 win.
Watton United are also dominating their Division in Division 3. So far this season Watton have played 17 games and won all 17 making them unbeaten in the league. They have been scoring goals for fun this season, hitting the back of the net 102 times and conceding only 18 goals giving them a goal difference of 84 goals. They are 8 points clear of Aylsham in second place having played one less game. As for their Cup Run, Watton started with a First Round Bye followed by three consecutive, comfortable victories leading them into the Semi Final. In these games they beat Woodton United 6-0, MC Rovers 4-0 and smashed Moose Park Rangers 7-0. In the Semi Final they faced AFC Norwich, the current leaders of Silver Fox’s Division, in the only cup game they conceded. However, they dispatched AFC Norwich 4-1 in the end, securing their place in the final. As you can tell Watton have very little trouble scoring goals both in the League and Cup, making for an eye catching contest that guarantees goals!
Let’s look forward to a competitive Final!
