Norfolk FA Veterans League available for new partnership

Norfolk County FA can confirm that the Norfolk FA Veterans Football League, currently known as the Leathes Prior Veterans League is available for sponsorship for the 19/20 season.

The news comes after a successful three year partnership with Norwich based law firm Leathes Prior that has seen the league grow substantially in that time.

Since its inception in 2010, the league has more than doubled in size, going from 2 divisions with 10 total teams, to this season hosting 5 divisions and 36 competing teams. In addition the 18/19 season has seen the introduction of a new league cup competition in which Cosstessey and Fakenham will face off on the 19th of May.

Norfolk FA hope to see further growth ahead of the 19/20 campaign and are also working to introduce a Walking Football division to the league, another area of the game which has seen huge growth in the last 5 years.

Matt Carpenter, Chairman of the league commented on the fantastic growth that Norfolk FA has seen in the last nine years: “We are delighted with the growth of the Veterans league over the past few seasons and we have already had a number of enquiries from teams looking to join the league next season.

“With the continuing growth of veterans’ football I am confident the League will continue to flourish. On behalf of the League, we are extremely grateful to the support that Leathes Prior have offered us over the past three seasons and I now look forward to an exciting future ahead.”

Two teams that are high flyers in the league faced off in the Norfolk Veterans Cup Final on Friday night at theFDC, Bowthorpe.

Horsford are currently sitting pretty in the Premiership having won the league at the beginning of April, with their opponents Tavern Old Boys runners up to them in second. It was an entertaining fixture which took extra time to separate the teams.

A Grant Holt header and Roy Bevis brace helped Horsford to come out on top winning 4-3; meaning a new name etched onto the trophy, with the competition having previously been dominated by Darren Huckerby’s Cringleford for the past two seasons.

Chief Executive of Norfolk FA, Gavin Lemmon spoke of the brilliant opportunity for another legal firm or any local business to get involved in a rapidly growing area of football: “Two of the league’s top teams battling it out through extra time in the County Cup is testament to the growth and quality of Vets Football in Norfolk.

“With the commitment and camaraderie displayed at this level, along with some well-known names gaining appearances, both the Veterans League and Veterans Cup represent a fantastic prospect for any organisation to get involved in what’s an exciting and developing area of Norfolk Football.”
