The FDC will play host to Great Yarmouth Town and UEA on Tuesday 18 February in the Norfolk Senior Cup Semi-Finals.
The FDC will play host to the first Norfolk Senior Cup Semi-Final between Great Yarmouth Town and UEA to see who will either Dereham Town or Wroxham at Carrow Road on Monday 23 March. Great Yarmouth Town play in the Thurlow Nunn League, First Division North whilst their opponents UEA are the lowest ranked team left in the competition as they play in the Anglian Combination Premier Division.
Great Yarmouth Town haven't enjoyed any recent success in this competition with their last triumph coming all the way back in 1990 as they beat Norwich United 2-1. Their last final came back in 2003 as they lost out to Diss Town 4-1. The club have lifted the trophy 13 times and will see this as a great opportunity against lower league opposition to reach their 28th Norfolk Senior Cup final. When concerning League form, the Bloaters are having a mixed season as they currently sit mid table after being relegated last Season. They have beaten lower League opposition in all previous rounds of this Season’s competition in the form of Sprowston Athletic, Acle United and Wymondham Town.
This is only the second season that UEA have competed in The Norfolk Senior Cup despite football being played at the University since the 1960’s. UEA are also experiencing a mixed season as they sit 7th in the Anglian Combination Premier Division but do have games in hand on the teams above them due to their cup exploits. The club have won the most matches in the competition so far due to them playing in the first round and all other Semi-Finalists receiving a bye. They beat fellow Anglian Combination sides; Thetford Rovers, Hellesdon and Attleborough Town to set up a Quarter-Final tie against Norwich United. Despite Norwich United playing two Leagues higher, UEA overcame them on penalties 4-3 to reach their first Norfolk Senior Cup Semi-Final.
Let's hope for an exciting semi-final!
