Carrow Road will play host to the Ashtons legal Senior Cup Final between Dereham Town and UEA on Monday 23 March with kick off at 7:45pm. Dereham Town play in the Bet Victor Isthmian League, North Division whilst their opponents UEA compete 3 steps lower as they play in the Anglian Combination, Premier Division.

Dereham Town are the defending champions of the Norfolk Senior Cup having beaten Thetford Town 2-1 after extra time last Season. In their League they sit mid table as they have been inconsistent with performances, often struggling to string together victories, however with a strong end to the season they could still yet reach the League play-offs. The Magpies beat last year’s fellow finalists, Thetford, 7-0 in the third round and overcame Mundford 1-0 under the lights at Aldiss Park, in the Quarters. A very convincing display in their semi-final against a strong Wroxham side at theFDC meant they entered their fifth final in six Seasons.

This is only the second season that UEA have competed in The Senior Cup despite football being played at the University since the 1960’s. UEA are having a reasonable season after gaining promotion last year to the Anglian Combination Premier Division. They currently sit sixth but do have games in hand on the teams above them due to their cup exploits. The club have won the most matches in the competition due to them playing in the first round and Dereham Town receiving byes until the last 16. They beat fellow Anglian Combination sides; Thetford Rovers, Hellesdon and Attleborough Town to set up a Quarter-Final tie against Norwich United. Despite Norwich United playing two Leagues higher, UEA overcame them on penalties 4-3 to reach their first Ashtons Legal Senior Cup Semi-Final. In their Semi-Final they also took Thurlow Nunn Division One side, Great Yarmouth Town to penalties after a 2-2 draw. Once again, they were able to convert more spot kicks and enter the final of The Senior Cup for the first time.

Will the Magpies be able to retain the trophy? Or can UEA cause another upset and create history?
