External Coaching Providers – Proposed Accreditation Scheme

Norfolk County FA have been selected to take part in an FA pilot centred around an accreditation scheme for coaching providers.

Outside of the affiliated world, we do not have oversight of those who have an up-to-date, and relevant, FA coaching badge which could present a challenge in areas such as safeguarding and insurance, ensuring the correct procedures are adhered to.

The FA are looking to introduce a national coaching affiliation scheme, which recognises coaches as achieving different levels of accreditation with the FA and can provide re-assurance to the customer that the coaching they receive meets current FA standards and regulations.

A coaching accreditation scheme can help to create a positive football environment, whilst also supporting both the male and female pathways:

Accredited coaches would be able to deliver sessions designed for the modern game, in line with the latest FA guidance to ensure a positive football environment. Additionally, with the recent publication of the Sheldon report and the upcoming safeguarding strategy, the safety of our participants needs to be a priority, the proposed scheme will ensure up-to-date safeguarding regulations are met.

88% of coaches are interested in pursuing other learning opportunities within football and the proposed scheme would provide the opportunity for providers to upskill their coaches ensuring there are more high quality coaches within the male game and allow players to understand the level of coaching they have.

Encouraging more coaches through an affiliation scheme will equip more coaches with modern techniques. Currently, coaches are more confident coaching boys than girls. By upskilling coaches through this scheme, we can improve the sustainability of the female game. Players will be aware of the level of coaching they receive, and we can ensure girls have access to the same level of coaching as boys.

Norfolk County FA have been selected to participate in a pilot of this scheme and we would like your feedback. If you are providing un-accredited football coaching in Norfolk, please complete the online form to let us know if you would be interested in such a scheme, and whether you would be open to further consultation around the proposed criteria and application process.
