Wymondham Town Ladies to call The FDC Arena home
The FDC Arena will be the home ground for local women’s team, Wymondham Town Ladies.
Work to redevelop The FDC’s Field of Dreams started last month and present at the ‘Spade in the Ground’ event was Wymondham Town Ladies Manager, Alex Guy. His side will be moving to play their home matches on the new artificial 3G AGP (Artificial Grass Pitch) from the 2022/23 season. To read more about the ‘Spade in the Ground’ event please click here.
The redevelopment will see the conversion of the site's full size grass pitch to a state-of-the-art 3G AGP complete with new hospitality suite and spectator viewing area.
Wymondham are no strangers to The FDC, having lifted the Harrod Sport Women’s Cup at the venue in 2018 and are one of Norfolk’s highest ranked female sides as they play in the Eastern Region Women’s League Premier Division. They currently sit top of their League having won 10 of their 13 League fixtures, with ambitions of getting promoted into the FA Women’s National League Division 1 South East.
Wymondham Town Ladies Manager, Alex Guy, said: “We are excited to be moving to The FDC as both our home pitch and training venue. The facility is very impressive and will allow us to further develop and progress as a club both on and off the pitch.
"It has been great to be involved in the recent ‘Spade in the Ground’ event and we are looking forward to making the move when the work is complete. A big thank you to Norfolk FA for working with us on making the move possible and we are excited for what the future holds at our new home.”
Norfolk County FA CEO, Matt Carpenter, added: “We are delighted to welcome Wymondham Town Ladies to The FDC from next season to play on our brand new Arena pitch. The ability to increase usage of our facility and diversify the football that can take place was a key driver behind the decision to install the new AGP, so to have a women’s team call The FDC home is fantastic news.
“I am sure that Wymondham will enjoy the facilities on offer, and I wish them all the best for the forthcoming seasons.”
Construction works are on schedule for the pitch to be completed by late Spring 2022, with hundreds of tonnes of topsoil already removed, drainage infrastructure installed, and the pitch base being completed this week.
