Watlington S&S Club face Upwell Town in 4Work Primary Cup Final
The 4Work Primary Cup
Either Watlington Sports & Social Club FC or Upwell Town FC will lift the 4Work Primary Cup this season.
After receiving a bye in the first round, an away trip to Litcham was successful in the second as they returned home with a 3-1 win. A closer away trip in the third round to Heacham Social Club was just as good as they won by the same scoreline as they had against Litcham. The fourth round draw saw another away trip, this time to AFC Lynn Napier Reserves where the game was one-sided resulting in a 10-0 victory. Two home victories against tough opposition in the form of Docking Rangers and North Walsham Reserves in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively means Watlington enter the final with confidence.
Watlington Sports & Social Club Manager, Luke Jackson was asked how he feels ahead of the game: “2015/16 was the last time we’ve been in a Final but that was just a League Cup Final, we’ve not even been anywhere near a County Cup Final before, so it’s going to be new and fun and I’m sure we will enjoy it.”
Upwell Town started their cup run in the third round thanks to a bye and a walkover. They ensured that they made their intentions clear in the third round to the rest of the competition with a 7-0 win against KLSC Reserves. Another walkover set up a long away trip in the quarter-finals to a strong Yaxham team, a game in which they took to penalties and kept their composure to win 4-1 on spot-kicks. A semi-final against 2018 winners, Gayton United FC Reserves, looked on paper to be a challenging game. However, a convincing 4-1 win puts them into this week’s final as they will be hoping to beat fellow North West Norfolk League side, Watlington Sports & Social Club.
Upwell Town Manager, Alex Lynn spoke his feelings towards the final: “As you can imagine, it’s quite an achievement for me personally, but I certainly can’t take all the credit as it is the lads that have got us there. I’ve also had so much help with the paperwork and everything else that goes with managing the team. I’m excited and nervous about it. It should be an entertaining game to say the least as we know what Watlington are all about as we’ve played them a couple of times. Overall I’m super excited!”
