The 4Work Primary Cup Final 2021-22

AFC Lynn Napier Reserves or Sprowston ‘A’ will lift the 4Work Primary Cup this season.

The 4Work Primary Cup has a long and distinguished history having first been competed for in 1925-26. West Lynn was the very first name engraved on the trophy as they beat the wonderfully named Ber Street Adult School by 3 goals to 2.

AFC Lynn Napier Reserves compete in the North West Norfolk Saturday League sponsored by MG Building Maintenance, Division 3 and have been crowned champions this season after winning 16 of their 18 matches and drawing the other two, making them invincible in the league. A comfortable 8-0 win in the opening round against Swaffham Town ‘A’ meant a local derby against Ingoldisthorpe in the second round. A 3-0 win with goals from Jack Royle, Charlie Royle and Ryan Whitby gave Napier Reserves another local derby, this time away to Terrington Tigers, a game in which they won 3-2. Home victories against MJ Dons and Costessey Sports Reserves mean that AFC enter Monday night’s final.

When asked about the final, AFC Lynn Napier Reserves’ Billy Simper said: “It is one of the biggest trophies available to win at our level and for the Club, it is a massive game, and we just hope we can perform on the night. To win the trophy would be an amazing feeling and a big achievement for the Club and the Team with many of the lads having their first season in Adult football. It would mean all the hard work the lads have put in during the season was worth it.”

Sprowston ‘A’ play in the North East Norfolk League sponsored by Generation X Disco's, Knights Trophies Division 2 and finished their season in second position. The Boars started their cup run with a 6-3 result at home to Shrublands Development, followed by a much closer game against Hempnall Reserves. After 90 minutes the teams couldn’t be separated, with the scoreline at 4-4, it was the away side who won the penalty shootout 4-1 to progress to the next round. The Boars needed spot kicks again in the next round after a 1-1 draw with Attleborough ‘A’, this time a 4-3 victory. A more convincing 5-1 result in the quarter-finals against Dersingham Rovers Development and a 6-1 win against Costessey Sports Reserves mean that they will be going into the final full of confidence.

When asked about the final, Sprowston ‘A’ Manager, Gary Howes said: “Being our first season, it didn’t seem possible that we could get to the Final, but the further we got, round by round it became a bigger and bigger target. Any County Cup Final is a big deal for any club. I just hope it’s a good game, entertaining for everyone and that we give the best version of us.”
