The Wensum Print Sunday Junior Cup Final 2022-23
The Wensum Print Sunday Junior Cup final is the first in the programme of Norfolk County Cup Finals. The final sees Norman Wanderers Reserves face off against Over Me on Friday 14 April. The game kicks off at 7:45pm and tickets can only be purchased online.
Norman Wanderers Reserves play in the Norwich & District Sunday League, Division Two, where they currently sit top having won 14 of their 15 matches. They received a bye in the First Round of this season’s Cup before beating Woodton United 2-0 in the Second Round. They beat Eaton Wanderers by the same scoreline in the Quarter-Finals to set up a Semi-Final match away at Salhouse Rovers. A comfortable 5-0 win with goals from Aaron Bartram, Ben Lewis, Jayden Madders, and a brace from Lewis Lee Dugdale means Norman enter the Final confident of lifting the trophy. They are yet to concede in the entire competition and have only let in 14 goals all season.
When asked about the final, Norman Wanderers Reserves Manager, Lee Mason said: “It’s a big achievement for the Club as this team in particular have only played one season of men’s football, this being our second. I started this team about 11 years ago and it has always been the plan to lead them into adult football.”
Like their opponents, Over Me also play in the Norwich & District Sunday League, Division Two, where they are currently ninth having won 4 of their 17 matches. They travelled to Yelverton in the First Round and progressed thanks to a 2-0 win. The Second Round was a tougher affair as they were held to a 3-3 draw after 90 minutes by Newsman Celtic. Over me sneaked through to the Quarter-Finals thanks to a 4-3 victory in the penalty shootout. The last eight proved to be much more comfortable for Over Me as they brushed aside Frettenham 6-0 to set up a home Semi-Final tie against Sprowston Rangers. Goals from Max Crosswell and Liam Humphrey meant that Over Me entered the Final with a 2-1 Semi-Final victory.
When speaking about the final, Over Me Manager, Kyle Jameson said: “Reaching the final of the Wensum Print Sunday Junior Cup fulfils one of the targets we set ourselves at the beginning of the Season – another one of those targets was to actually win it! This marks our first cup final as a Club, though several of us have experience of playing in Cup finals previously – we know that occasions like this don’t come around very often. We plan on embracing it and having no regrets come the final whistle.”
