The John Savage Cup Final 2022-23

The John Savage Cup final is the fourth in the programme of Norfolk County Cup Finals. The final sees Fakenham Town face off with Terrington Tigers on Sunday 23 April at Harrod Sport Arena, The FDC. The game kicks off at 2:30pm and tickets can only be purchased online.

Fakenham Town compete in the Eastern Junior Alliance League, U16 Blue Division and are currently top of the table having not lost a League match this campaign so far. Fakenham started their Cup run with a bye and then beat Costessey Sports 3-0 to enter the Third Round. A comfortable 4-0 home win against Mundford set up a tough test in the Quarter-Finals against fellow Eastern Junior Alliance side, Wroxham. The Ghosts edged out Wroxham 2-1, to reach the Semi-Finals where they needed penalties to overcome AC Mill Lane after a goalless draw. They will be hoping to lift the John Savage Cup again after doing so 12 months ago.

When asked about the final, Fakenham Town Manager, Dan Brown said: “From the start of the season this was our target, to win the John Savage Cup and be named the best team in Norfolk. Its massive for the club and we are trying to retain the trophy as the U16’s won it last season.”

Terrington Tigers play in the Peterborough & District Youth League, U16 Division Two. Terrington started their Cup run with a comfortable 6-0 away win against Scole United in the first round. They then beat Wymondham Town United 2-0 at home in the Second Round and beat nearby Reffley Youth 6-2 to progress to the Quarter-Finals. The returned home from a long trek to Gorleston with a 5-0 scoreline and a place in the Semi-Finals. The Tigers couldn’t be separated from their Semi-Final opponents, Norwich United Youth after the full time whistle, meaning that penalty kicks were required. They edged into the Final after winning 5-4 on penalties.

When speaking about the final, Terrington Tigers Manager, Will Parker said: “As a small Village Club reaching the Final is a massive achievement for us. Reaching the Final has given the Club a lift and shows to all other age groups nothing is impossible if you play the game in the right way.”
