The Stuart Dracup Cup Final 2022-23

The Stuart Dracup Cup final is the third in the programme of Norfolk County Cup Finals. The final sees Hellesdon St Faiths play Wymondham Town United on Sunday 23 April. The game kicks off at 10:30am and tickets can only be purchased online.

Hellesdon St Faiths compete in the Norfolk Combined Youth Football League, Under 14 Premier League and are currently second having won 7 of their 12 League matches. Hellesdon St Faiths started their Cup run with an 8-0 home win against Scole United and followed that up with another home win in the second round against Costessey Sports, this time 5-1. A third round home walkover set up a Quarter-Final tie against Sprowston, which they won 2-0. In the Semi-Finals they faced fellow Premier League side, North Walsham Town and after a 1-1 draw, they won the penalty shootout 4-3 to progress to the Final.

When asked about the final, Hellesdon St Faiths Manager, Paul Reeve said: “It’s absolutely massive for a small, independent club like Hellesdon St Faiths to reach the County Cup Final. It’s been a real team effort, from the committee, volunteers, sponsors, players, parents and coaches, which is now showing its reward. It’s a real privilege to have been on this journey with such a great group of players.”

Like their opponents, Wymondham Town United also play in the Norfolk Combined Youth Football League, Under 14 Premier League. Wymondham required penalties to overcome their First Round opponents, Taverham after a 2-2 draw at the end of 80 minutes. They then received a home walkover in the Second Round and narrowly beat Gorleston Rangers 1-0 to progress to the Quarter-Finals. A more comfortable 4-0 home win against Great Yarmouth Town in the last 8 set up a Semi-Final tie with Stoke United. Wymondham handed Stoke United their only loss of the season in a 1-0 win thanks to Jake Moir’s goal in the second half.

When speaking about the final, Wymondham Town United Manager, Andy Poll said: “As coaches we are delighted for the boys to have made it through this season. Our team have certainly earned the right to be in the Final after some tough matches including overcoming a difficult Semi-Final against the heavy favourites to win the competition overall. However, reaching the Final is just a bonus. Win or lose the biggest reward has been seeing how the boys individually and as a group have continued to develop, support and fight for each other this season on the pitch.”
