Female Football For Mental Health

What is Female Football For Mental Health?

Female Football For Mental Health is a weekly inclusive football session for females struggling with their mental health, led by a FA qualified coach. It is free to attend and is open to all ages (18+) and abilities. The session will involve a kick about style small-sided match. The session design creates the perfect environment for participants to try something new and access support should they choose to. Female Football For Mental Health has the overall aim of positively impacting the lives of its participants through a network of peer support, organisational signposting as well as support from onsite mental health first aid trained staff. The sessions will also be followed by a social element in which hot drinks and confectionary will be provided, perfect for a post-match chat!

When and where will Female Football For Mental Health sessions be?

These sessions will take place every week, on a Saturday, from 4pm to 5pm at The FDC, Bowthorpe Park Clover Hill Road, Norwich, Norfolk, NR5 9ED.

These sessions will be starting back up on Saturday 29th July and we look forward to welcoming everyone then!

When asked about the Female Football For Mental Health sessions, our Football Development Officer, Anoushka Williamson, said:

“We are really excited to re-launch our women’s mental health sessions providing sessions for women in and around the Norwich area. Mental health is a huge topic in society and physical activity and specifically football can provide a great source of relief. Physical activity is an amazing way to boost our mental health, and our hope is for individuals to find this a safe space to have meaningful conversations with one another. Our sessions have been designed to be suitable for all ability’s and to have a very social and relaxed environment. The football session will also be coupled with a social hour after where individuals can chat with peers over refreshments in our FDC. I am really excited for these sessions to restart and to provide support for every individual that comes our way.”
