The Norfolk Intermediate Cup Final 2022-23

The Norfolk Intermediate Cup final is the seventh in the programme of Norfolk County Cup Finals. The final sees Earsham Reserves play Attleborough Town Reserves on Saturday 13 May. The game kicks off at 7:45pm and tickets can only be purchased online.

Earsham Reserves currently compete in the Anglian Combination, Division Five (South) after being promoted from the Lowestoft & District League last season. In their debut season in the League, they finished fourth after winning eight of their eighteen matches. They started their cup run with a bye and then a 4-0 home win against Watlington Sports & Social Club. They needed penalties to come through their Quarter-Final tie against KLSC Reserves after they drew 3-3 after 90 minutes. They entered the Final after Loddon United Reserves were removed from the competition after fielding an ineligible player.

When asked about the final, Earsham Reserves Manager, Oliver Howard said: “It is a huge achievement for us to reach the county cup final. Since taking over in 2021, the squad has gone from strength to strength, and I am extremely proud of all of my players. The build up to a cup final is always the most exciting bit for me. The buzz and feel around the venue pre-match is something that only happens on these occasions, I enjoy soaking it all in.

"I am very confident for the final. I feel like we have the ability and experience to take the game to Attleborough Res and bring home the silverware.”

Attleborough Town Reserves also play in the Anglian Combination League, but in a higher Division in Division Four. They have finished their season in eleventh place after winning four of their twenty four matches. In this season’s Cup, they started their run with a 3-1 home victory against Gayton United Reserves before receiving a home walkover in the second round. They also received a walkover in the Quarter-Finals after UEA ‘A’ were removed from the competition for fielding an ineligible player. They entered the Final after beating Sprowston ‘A’ on penalties after a goalless draw.

When speaking about the final, Attleborough Town Reserves Manager, Michael Smith said: “After a few challenging seasons rebuilding the club, it gives everyone involved with Attleborough Town a great boost to see the club going in the right direction. It will be the last final for a few players and a great experience for our younger lads, hopefully sparking desire to achieve more success.”
