Mind Charity Tournament at The FDC

On Friday 13 July Norfolk FA hosted a football tournament in partnership with Norfolk & Waveney Mind.

The purpose of the tournament was to raise money for Norfolk & Waveney Mind, a local mental health awareness charity. They offer a wide range of services including 1:1 talking therapies, gardening projects, access to employment services, mental health training and education for businesses, schools and individuals, residential care and support programmes. They also work within local communities to raise awareness and challenge stigma and discrimination.

Lots of local companies and organisations played in the small-sided tournament with the final being contested between R13 Recruitment and Reverb Digital with R13 Recruitment winning the overall competition. The day was based around more than just football with participants speaking openly about mental health and the positive impacts that physical exercise can have on their wellbeing.

Alex Wiseman, Partnerships and Income Generation Manager said: “We would like to thank everybody who took part in the football tournament. The day was a lot of fun and it was lovely to see so many local companies getting involved. Special thanks to the team at Norfolk FA for hosting and facilitating the event.

“Funds raised from events like this are vital in helping us deliver our services to ensure no one in Norfolk and Waveney has to face poor mental health alone.”

Chief Executive of Norfolk FA, Matt Carpenter said: “Being able to support our charity partner, Norfolk & Waveney Mind, by hosting a tournament at our Football Development Centre in Bowthorpe was great. All the matches throughout the day were played in the right spirit with lots of fun had by all.

“The work that Mind carry out really makes a difference to lots of local communities and that includes people involved with grassroots football. Raising the awareness and highlighting the importance of positive mental health is key in allowing people to enjoy playing the beautiful game.”
